Wylie Wylie Gender: Female
Age: 1 yr old
Loc: Virginia
Status: Available
Assistance with transportation if its the right home, distance may not have a max. If its for a meeting to see if it may be a match, probably about 6 hour driving. Wylie is fostered through the Virginia German Shepherd Rescue and VGSR requires a home visit and thus they generally do not adopt outside VA/MD/DC/NC area. Exceptions can be made for the right home and assuming they can get a local rescue to help with the home visit.
Wylie was in a VA animal shelter as a stray. She looked to be about 8-9 months old at the time and she appeared to have a broken leg that was never taken care of properly. The Virginia German Shepherd Rescue sent out a plea to see if anyone would foster her so she would not be euthanized by the shelter. Her foster parents volunteered to foster her thinking she was a husky/shepherd mix. They never had any intentions of keeping her. The goal had always been get medical attention for her leg (which ended up having to be amputated), and then to find her a good home.
Wylie is about 60 lbs (ish). Black/gray/white. Striking markings. Beautiful.
Tri-pod - missing front right leg but no physical limitations at this time. Can run, jump, dig, and do stairs just as good or better than a dog with 4 legs. Long term will need to watch her other front leg and diagonal back leg for wear and tear.
Wylie is about 1 year old; low content (based on personality and physical attributes is she is mostly husky with maybe a little shepherd and a little wolf); 55-60lbs - ideal weight; spayed - Oct. 2014. She is fully vaccinated and no medical needs at this time.
Known history - A man dropped her off at the VA shelter and said she was a stray but the shelter had reported that she seemed attached to the man. Several WD breeders in the area were contacted, and one specifically said she might be one of theirs but they didn't seem interested in helping her.
Wylie is: Fun and very playful (almost cat like in many ways). Loving and affectionate. High energy. Mischievous and can be destructive. Needs high amounts of stimulation and engagement. Loves to climb.
When meeting new people she generally is nervous at first but then warms up quickly and can be very affectionate. When they take her to places like Petsmart and Petco for adoption days she needs about 15-20 minutes to warm up (her hackles will go up at first and she is nervous), but then she settles in and takes treats nicely from visitors and does very well. However when foster family had a maintenance man come to their home Wylie was growling some and her hackles were up. She seems to take cues from the German shepherds in the foster home. If they are comfortable with the visitor, so is she, but if they are nervous of the visitor, so it she.
She absolutely loves other dogs. She plays very rough though so needs dogs that can handle her exuberance. At daycare she plays with dogs about 40lbs and up.
Wylie is unknown with cats. She shows interest but doesn't seem aggressive. Its very hard to tell if she'd have prey drive with a cat if left unattended. She's met a few 15 lbs dogs and she did fine at first but then when they tried to play with her she played too rough and the small dogs would snap at her. She is pretty good at having another dog put her in her place but it doesn't stop her from trying again (she'll pause when she is corrected, but then will instigate the other dog again - its a game and fun to her). She does best with dogs close to her size or larger.
When supervised and on-leash Wylie did very well with children, but shouldn't trust her in a home with children though yet as she can be destructive with anything she decides looks like fun to chew up and destroy. She also has some resource guarding issues. If she took a child's toy or stuffed animal, she could likely "claim it" and show aggression when someone goes to take it from her. She is doing well working on this with her foster parents and trainer but she needs firm leadership and consistency.
She does like to dig but not excessively. If she had a lot of pent of energy and was bored she may dig even more. In her foster home she gets 2 long walks a day for about 2-2.5 miles each. She has not destroyed any furniture but could if left in a house unattended. She has destroyed some blinds and a rug (in addition to dozens of dog toys, socks, and things like that). She was much worse with no house manners when she was first brought to her foster home, and after the past couple months of consistency and reinforcement, she is doing better and learning to respond to correction. They also keep a leash on her in the house. She drags the leash around so they can easily get a hold of her if she gets into something she shouldn't be doing.
She definitely resource guards. If she gets a sock from the hamper but you get to her quickly, she may protest a bit but she is doing better with "drop" especially if you pull up on the leash a bit while you firmly command "drop". Foster parents have been working on her food bowl for months and she is 95% better with the food bowl for her foster parents. They have trained her that their hands going into her food bowl are a good thing and they are giving her more food or something even more yummy than food. When they first brought her home she would have bitten if you got to close to her food but she is much better with her foster parents now and doesn't show any aggression but she is still obsessive about her food. She is still bad with a high value item like a kong filled with yummy treats. The longer she has it and the more frustrated she gets that she can't get a treat out, the worse her intensity is when you go to take it from her. This is similar with anything she is chewing up/destroying. The sooner you get to her to take it the less resistance. The longer she has it, the more she has claimed it and the worse her guarding. She has come a long way in the
4 months but she still has a long way to go and she will need constant reinforcement.
4.5-5 foot 4 board paddock fencing with chicken wire has contained her just fine but she is never left outside completely unattended for very long without other things in the yard to engage her. If she was extremely bored and there was something outside the fence she wanted, she might try to dig or climb out. Contact Debbie at dak0717@hotmail.com

Pending transportation to TX. SHASTA: White high-content female, approx. 9 mos - 1 yr, probably intact. Will be spayed before transport. Needs sanctuary or extremely wolf-experienced home with escape-proof enclosure.
CONTACT: (at the shelter) Gina Nelson skyelitebc@yahoo.com (209) 890-9639

Gina wants to save this girl from euthanasia. She will work with a Rescue. They will hold her for a week, until about Jan 29, maybe longer if commitment to pull is made. They may be able to help with some transportation.
This girl is beautiful and very workable. Shasta will come up to the fencing but will not allow petting yet. She paces while Gina is taking photos but will relax and lie down from time to time, using her bed and sleeping outside as well. She's a bit resource protective. Gina tossed in some cookies and Shasta showed teeth when Gina was near, but was ok when Gina walked to the other side of the kennel.

This boy needs a home in a hurry! This has become very urgent just a few days ago. Can anyone take him?

Thank you!

- Marsha

Needs home very soon! Clayton, CA (Contra Costa County, 50 miles from San Francisco) - Here is Nikki - a gorgeous 8-year-old Malamute/German Shepherd boy that needs a good home. Nikki is about 90 lbs and is neutered. He has not had much exposure to other dogs and strangers but is great with cats. Nikki is housetrained and not destructive when left alone. He does http://www.laketahoewolfrescue.com/images/Nikki%20in%20Clayton,%20CA%20s... dig or climb or try to escape and is very secure. Presently with owner, he is free roaming on their unfenced property, but we require 7' fencing for all our rescues for those times you need to leave them home alone. Nikki has some basic training, knows Sit, Come, Outside, etc. He is a bit of a counter surfer and does not like his bones taken away, but that can be addressed with proper training. Nikki is generally submissive with other dogs and people and has a sweet disposition. He likes to sit on chairs like a person; likes pack interaction with both people and dogs; likes to sleep on furniture but content to sleep in his bed and also outdoors. Nikki is very smart and can open doors, howls at the sound of ringing phone, enjoys hiking and treats, and although he likes children is better suited to a calm environment without kids. This boy has a great personality and is very bonded wit his family. He will need time to adjust to a new home. Owner left the country for work and http://www.laketahoewolfrescue.com/images/Nikki%20facing%208-2-14_thumb2... needs a new home. Nikki will need a handler that is experienced with Malamutes and can start socializing him right away. Nikki is currently working with a personalized trainer so we are hoping that new adopters will continue with this. Please know that all recues take a while to acclimate. Often they do get depressed losing their families (especially when they were there from young pups), but with lots of attention and daily exercise, as well as a solid connection to let the dog know he is in good hands, they do adjust to make wonderful companions. Please allow a few weeks for this transition to take place with any dog you adopt, and the bonding process will begin! We do not want any of our rescues bouncing from home to home. We need someone committed and that has lots of time to spend with Nikki helping him to learn to trust the new people in his life. Transportation help available. Please contact Pamela Jo if you are interested in this beautyboy at PamelaJoWolflady2@sbcglobal.net

Lessa Lessa Gender: Female
Age: adult
Loc: Florida
Status: Available, URGENT
Lessa is 3 yrs. old, born Oct. 2011. She is spayed and up to date on shots. She weighs 60 lbs.
Lessa is on Comfortis for fleas and Endomec for heartworm prevention.
She's accustomed to being with 3 other dogs, all are related. She has her own bowl and eats with the other animals. She doesn't mess with anyone while eating, but eats at night.
She gets along with most other dogs. She’s alpha to 2 of the dogs, but her sister is challenging her and they are fighting and must be kept separate. She doesn't know what a bath is, but likes to be brushed and goes belly up.
She will "sit, shake... down... say please."
She has grown up with a huge area fenced in; its 6' high chain link with an electric top & bottom. She respects a fence.
She is house broken & used to having her own sofa chair. Owner needs to separate the two sisters, and must find a new home for Lessa as soon as possible for their safety. Contact Debbie at dak0717@hotmail.com.

Harley Harley Gender: Female
Age: adult
Loc: Florida
Status: Available
Harley needs a home! She is a mid-content WD from Pyro & Southern Breeze's Magic. She will be 3 years old in January and she is currently located in Miami, Florida. She is SPAYED and up to date on all vaccines. Important Info: She has same sex aggression towards dominant females and has to be monitored around small dogs. If the small dogs run quickly and are skittish it will trigger her prey drive, if the small dog is calm she is okay though I would never risk leaving her with one unsupervised. No cats. It would be best to have a young submissive male as her sole companion or she could be fine as an only dog with a lot of human love. Harley is not reliably house trained. She does great if supervised, but if you leave her in an indoor kennel for 8 hours alone, don't expect a clean house. It would be best to have an outdoor enclosure. Food: She is on a raw diet at the moment and so far has done very well on it as opposed to kibble. She does have resource guarding with the raw. She could eat with our other two and be fine so long as someone was supervising and made sure no one tries to steal. Training: Harsh corrections do not work well on Harley, she'll either ignore you or urinate in submission. She knows to sit, lie down and wait for her food. She is also leashed trained, does okay in public, does fine for short car rides but will occasionally get motion sickness if the ride is too long. Containment: Harley does not need a running start to jump a fence so secure containment is required with a minimum of 6ft fencing with lean ins. Dig guards recommended as well. Love & Family!!: Harley wants a lot of attention and needs someone who does not mind a large lap dog. She also doesn't like when you stop petting her! She wants love all the time. She is too sweet! She would be fine with older children though she loves everyone so small kids may work if there is supervision as she loves to push into you for attention and she may knock over a young child and accidentally hurt them with her size. Neima Neima Gender: Female
Age: adult
Loc: California
Status: Available, URGENT
Extremely Urgent! Must be out of foster home ASAP or she will be euthanized Neima - is a 6-year-old grey-and-white spayed Malamute/mix female. She is about 76 lbs. Neima is very shy with men and will cower if a man approaches or tries to pet her but at her foster home a man has been working with her and making progress. She is learning to trust and she will take treats from your hand and is walks on a leash so much better than when she first arrived. She's is still pretty nervous about new things but learning to adjust better and better every day. She does very well getting bathed and also did well when we drew blood for blood panel, she's quite submissive. Neima likes to dig a den so dig guard around your secure yard is recommended. Neima loves to go on hikes and an experienced handler is just what she needs to help her to learn to trust and be comfortable around new things. Neima is a real sweetheart especially with a woman who understands the breed, someone she can trust. Neima has been living in a small 4' x 8' kennel, sleeping on concrete, and would really love to have a home she could call her own with good daily exercise (which will also help keep her feel calm and secure). Transportation help available. Time is of the essence or she will be euthanized soon please email PamelaJoWolflady2@sbcglobal.net or call (775) 833-2066 ASAP

Aphrodite Aphrodite Gender: Female
Age: adult
Loc: California
Status: Available, URGENT
Extremey Urgent! Must be out of foster home ASAP or she will be euthanized Auburn, CA - Aphrodite - is a very sweet 4-year-old spayed female. At her perfect weight she weighs 73 lbs and looks to be mostly White German Shepherd/Husky. She's very shy with men but warms up quite fast with women and calm children. She is doing very well walking on leash through the woods and likes going for hikes whenever she can although she is still a little nervous about people approaching. Ditey is very affectionate and wants to be loved and will give kisses once she trusts you. Ditey will need someone around a lot - works at home, retired, etc.) as she likes to be with you and has separation anxiety if left alone. She is fine for a few hours if she has a secure yard and a male canine companion but not good to be left home all day indoors. Aphrodite would do best in a home with no men, and a patient and experienced woman handler who will take Ditey around with her, get her used to going places and doing things, and will teach Ditey to trust men eventually. It takes a while for these rescued dogs to acclimate in a new home so Ditey would be best with a gentle and patient woman that understands her because she is very very sweet and has a delicate nature. We think she has had some abuse by a man as she cowers and shakes when a man approaches her or attempts to pet her - but she loves her cuddles with a woman. She would love to have a male doggie companion (to be an ambassador and for those times when left alone) and she needs a secure yard in case she gets startled or frightened. She loves her fleece blankie and Mercola dental bones. She looks different in all her photos but she is beautiful and oh so sweet.
If you think you have the proper environment for Aphrodite and can give a commitment to help her trust, Ditey would love a forever home with you ... or even a foster home ... Her Foster Mom cannot keep her any more and wants her out by December or she will be euthanized. Ditey really needs to get out of a kennel and into a real home ... she has been living in a small 4' x 8' kennel, sleeping on concrete, and would really love to have a home she could call her own with attention and daily exercise (which will also help keep her feel calm and secure). Please email PamelaJoWolflady2@sbcglobal.net Transportation help is available. Time is of the essence! She will be euthanized soon! Zerk Zerk Gender: Male
Age: adult
Loc: California
Status: Available, URGENT
Extremely Urgent! Must be out of foster home ASAP or will be euthanized - Auburn, CA - Zerk is a beautiful, large 6-year-old neutered boy about 105 lbs. His handsome conformation appears to be mostly Malamute but he has huge wolfy feet. He has beautiful yellow eyes and LOVES his treats. He did very well getting a bath and is quite affectionate. He can be an escape artist if bored or scared so heavy chain-link or wood fencing is recommended for this calm and sweet boy. Keeping him happy with hikes every day will certainly help him feel more secure and he would certainly settle into a home he can call his own. He would be best with a nice, large female companion. We were told that Zerk is good with kids but we don't know for sure. A calm and disciplined household with lots of hiking and a large yard for him (and a female buddy) would be great for Zerk. He does get a walk or two a day but has been living in a small 4' x 8' kennel, sleeping on concrete, and would really love to have a home he could call his own with good daily exercise. Kota Kota Gender: Male
Age: adult
Loc: Florida
Status: Available
Birthday: November 12, 2008. He was 92 lbs at his last vet visit. He's neutered, microchipped, on Heartguard, and received a three year rabies shot last September. He is on a diet of Earthborn (Great Plains formula) and chicken. He can't tolerate foods with corn.
Kota grew up surrounded by love. He came home a rambunctious, big footed, sharp-toothed, bundle of energy. He growled when he first met China, the Chow who would be his companion for the remaining nearly five years of her life. After a couple of minutes, her maternal nature won him over and he never let her far from his sight. He became the bratty little brother chewing on her ears, hanging from her scruff, and stealing her toys from between her paws. In between the play, they would lie beside each other and lick each other’s faces. When it came time to eat, he still acted like he was competing with his litter mates. He would devour his food in seconds and then go after China's food. If she left any food, he would pick her bowl up and carry it off to finish. He grew like a weed and he was quite the destructive force through his puppy years. This tendency waned as he matured. When he was four, you could look at him and see a look in his eyes and know ”puppy brain” was activated and a short time later, a calm handsome adult was present. He still counter cruises and resource guards although he will gladly follow you for a piece of cheese and be led away from his ill-gotten spoils. He will steal your towel if given the chance. He will pull it off the rack; take it to the middle of the floor, and roll all over it. He is a pillow thief. He uses this as a way to instigate a game of chase. He has also figured out it's a great way to let you know he thinks you have been on the phone too long. When China passed, he took it especially hard, but he seemed to understand that she was gone. His personality changed once she wasn't around. Whereas he always stood back when someone came to the door, he was now going up to it to see who was there, but his step up to protector was apparent in his posture. He wakes up just before 7 and lies outside until around 9. He then goes inside, noses the bedroom door closed, and hops up on the bed for his daytime nap. He will usually sleep until around 4 or 5, but sometimes he wakes up around 2 to go out and then quickly return to his nap. He knows closing the bedroom door means it is time to go to sleep. Most times, he falls asleep kneading the bed like a kitten. Every effort has been made to keep him entertained. Scent rolling is one of his favorite activities. He especially loves the smell of peppermint. Of course he loves to receive stuffed toys that are quickly relieved of their stuffing. He loves to chew on deer antlers. He dislikes Kong toys, likes natural ones by placing peanut butter in the hollowed out section of leg bones. He thinks the empty peanut butter jar is a treat in and of itself. He likes the task of removing the lid to get to the remnants inside. He also thinks soda bottles (especially root beer) are chew toys, and he knows that soda cups contain tasty ice cubes, so he's always on the lookout for an opportunity to steal one. He seems to love balls most of all. He's very particular about which ones though. Tennis balls will do in a pinch. His favorite toy in the whole world is “Squeaker.” Sometimes Squeaker only lasts a few minutes, but sometimes it will last for months. He likes for Squeaker to be kicked or tossed so he can chase it. He will toss him in the air and nose or drop him into the pool, push him underwater with that big paw and grab him when he pops back up. He loves to be chased and created his own game called “Rake.” When raking leaves, he goes into a play bow and started scratching at the ground. He wants you to chase him and Rake was born. He has extended this to include “Broom.” One nice side effect is that when he gets rambunctious, holding the rake or broom keeps him from wanting to jump up or becoming mouthy (which he does only when he is very wound up.) He has good manners. He has been taught to sit before he gets his food or a treat. When people are eating around him, he lays about three feet away and won't approach unless he is given eye contact. He sits upon command although stay has not been successful. He has lived next to two dogs. The three of them got along well. They would play back and forth along the fence. Kota has a strong prey drive. He stalks the feral cats along the fence line and the birds that land around the pool. Kota has so much love and shows it often; he has to go through a greeting ritual. This has to be completed to his satisfaction before he will even go out. It never lasts less than five minutes and sometimes can take as long as fifteen. It starts with leaning against your legs for head rubs and hugs. He will put his ears back submissively as he gets his neck and chest scratched. This always includes him putting his forehead against yours and holding it there. When he knows he is loved and he feels secure, he is the most loving animal you can imagine.

Cubby Cubby Gender: Female
Age: adult
Loc: Florida
Status: Available
UPDATE - Cubby is a 4 year old female spayed and utd on shots and was surrendered by her owner in March of 2014. She was found living outdoors without proper shelter, food, or medical attention. She was also heartworm positive, extremely underweight and positive for several different types of parasites. She had food aggression and didn't get along with any other animals.
Now Cubby has completed her heartworm treatments and is doing extremely well. Cubby is in a loving foster home and is making leaps and bounds in her physical and mental heath. She has gained 40+lbs and has learned to trust and love again the way she should. Her foster mom has taught her basic commands and worked on her food aggression. Now she is introduced to lots of new people and loves most everyone she meets. She loves to go on long walks, rides in the car, play outside, and to be chased. Cubby is house trained and loves to be indoors as much as she loves to be outside. She needs to be placed in a home without children, small animals or female dogs. Although Cubby is doing very well with male dogs. She needs to be introduced first and given time to get used to the new male dog. She has come a long way since she came into rescue and is so outgoing. She just wants to please you, as her owner. Cubby is continuously working through her fears and challenges. Positive reinforcement lots of love and patience makes all the difference with Cubby who just wants her forever home. Contact Debbie at dak0717@hotmail.com.

Polo Polo Gender: Male
Age: adult
Loc: Nevada
Status: Available, URGENT
URGENT - Las Vegas Area, NV - This beautiful young 1-year-old White Husky/mix is named Polo and is a real sweetie. He is neutered, pure white, about 45 pounds, gets along with others dogs any size, likes people and is very friendly. He is energetic and needs a home that can take him hiking and give him the attention and love he deserves. His owner dumped him at the shelter because he was moving and we got him out just in time. Polo needs training because he is still a pup and likes to jump and dig but he is smart and likes to learn. He is a fast eater so 3 small meals a day is best for him until he realizes he is not going to starve. He was very thin when rescued. He is presently in a foster home outside of Vegas, but his Foster Dad can only keep him for another week as he already has two big dogs. Time is of the essence for this pup! We would love to adopt him in the cool Sierra! If you can give this sweet young boy a home, please contact Pamela at PamelaJoWolflady@yahoo.com Transportation help is available.

Leo Leo Gender: Male
Age: 6 years old
Loc: Nevada
Status: Available
Leo is a big, fluffy (85 lbs) and handsome 6-year-old boy who looks mostly White Husky/Malamute. He is very friendly and affectionate, albeit shy when he first meets you. He was adopted by the breeder to a home with other dogs (and two cats!) and he got along fine with them all. Leo would lie on the couch with the cats up on the back. Leo loved his new owner and would not let her out of his sight. In his new home he learned to go for hikes on leash in the woods and he travelled with her to work in the car, but Leo did not like being crated while she had to work. He chewed out of the crate and wanted to lie by her side, but this was not allowed at her place of work. He does not do well when left home alone unless you have an escape-proof enclosure and buddies for him to hang with. They loved Leo so much they bathed him, groomed him, and had him to the vet right away for examination and neutering. Leo's bloodwork came back negative, he has a clean bill of health. Unfortunately the woman has to work and could not leave Leo home. Sadly they gave up sweet Leo. He is now with his other pack mates at our Foster Home in Auburn. See more about these dogs on our website http://www.laketahoewolfrescue.com/ Please help this boy find a good home as he needs to be out of his foster in one week. Riley Riley Gender: Male
Age: 5 years old
Loc: Wisconsin
Status: Available
Riley is looking for his forever home. He is a beautiful mal/husky mix. He is a bit shy at first with new people, but bring-on the treats and you've made a great friend.
This boy does well on leash and would be a great companion to take for long country walks.
He is an active & playful guy. He is happiest when he can run, roughhouse and chase another dog around the yard. With proper introduction Riley is good with bigger dogs (both male & female) that like to roughhouse. So if you have a big girl who loves to play hard and needs a companion…Riley’s your man!! He doesn’t realize how big & strong he is so he would probably not be good for a smaller dog or small children.
He is 85-90 lb., neutered & current on vaccinations. 5 years old DOB 12/16/2009
He has never jumped the yard fence - been in both 5' & 6' He will pull on his inside kennel containment so welded wire would be best, and he will dig.
Riley comes in the house for supervised visits but he has a tendency to mark when you are not paying attention. If his new family had time to work with him he may get over that once he has settled in.
Riley is also perfectly happy being an outside dog. If you can offer this bundle of love and fur a new home please contact Jayne at wolfdogrescue@thegreywolf.org
We will send you an adoption application. A fenced yard is a requirement. A home visit will be arranged at your convenience before adoption.

Iua Iua Gender: Male
Age: 5 years
Loc: California
Status: Available, CRITICAL

Breeder has been warned by Animal Control that he has too many animals and they will confiscate and kill his 7 dogs. This boy Iua seems to be the most social. He appears to be Malamute/White Husky and is about 5 years old. He is playful and likes to go for car rides. He walks on leash and could be trained and socialized with someone that has time and experience with the breed. He's shy with strangers but has good potential as an only dog or with a large female and lots of exercise. These dogs are not in good condition and since they are all in the same enclosure have been allowed to fight over food and injure each other without medical attention. None have serious health issues except one dog has a broken leg that has not been attended to. We would like to get these dogs out of there and into sanctuary as soon as possible before they are confiscated. Most cannot be adopted into regular homes but with experienced handlers, time and tender lovin' care - as well as secure containment - they may stand a chance for a happy life. If you can help any of these neglected babies, please contact PamelaJoWolflady@yahoo.com Time is of the essence.

Athena Athena Gender: Female
Age: 4 years
Loc: California
Status: Available, CRITICAL
Breeder has been warned by Animal Control that he has too many animals and they will confiscate and kill his 5 dogs. This girl, Athena, is very shy and submissive and will urinate if frightened. She appears to be Husky/GSD and is the youngest of the group at 4 years old. She has been known to climb. She has a little training but could be trained and socialized with someone that has time and experience with the shy dogs. She is more friendly with the owner's family and shy and curious with strangers, but needs some more leash training. Athena has good potential in a home with a large male that is friendly and can teach Athena how to trust humans. She also needs lots of exercise to help keep her calm and tired. Many of these dogs are not in good condition and since they are all in the same enclosure have been allowed to fight over food and injure each other without medical attention. Athena does not seem to have any health issues but could put on a few pounds. One dog, Sophie, has a broken leg that has not been attended to. We would like to get these dogs out of there and into sanctuary as soon as possible before they are confiscated. Most cannot be adopted into "normal" homes but with experienced handlers, time and tender lovin' care - as well as secure containment and good exercise - they may stand a chance for a happy life. Jake Jake Gender: Male
Age: 2 years
Loc: California
Status: Available
Jake is a stunning 2-y/o male Husky/x that needs a home soon. Jake weighs about 65 lbs, is neutered and current on vaccinations. He has been receiving heartworm preventative. His dad was a purebred Siberian Husky. Jake acts like a typical HUsky but can be cautious of strange-looking objects (wheelbarrows, etc.). Jake's owners say: "He loves meeting people and other dogs and would love to get to know the local deer and rabbits if we let him! He is also fascinated with children and loves our 2-year-old grandson and plays with our 9-year-old grandson and is submissive to him. Although at times, Jake is cuddly by putting his head down between our knees to be rubbed, petted, scratched and hugged, he is definitely not the lap-dog type. He'd rather learn a new command, be talked to, play, or fetch a ball in exchange for a treat. He's very smart, and seems to know what a person is saying to him, and loves being indoors with you. He was attacked by a couple of dogs and so does not like to fight .. would rather go home, but that was when he was not neutered. Jake has only seen cats from a distance and has not ever met one up close. I'm sure he would probably consider a cat as something to chase but it's unknown. He's a Husky and wants to pull. We use a Holt headcollar (power steering) and he has been trained to heel on the left by verbal & hand signal commands. When he gets distracted or excited, he's a bit frisky, and we have to shorten the leash, hold his collar, or just make him Sit until he settles down. He can get very squirrely when he gets excited by jumping up & out. He really enjoys going on walks and he's actually very manageable with the Holt. He's especially good on our way back to the house after a jaunt around the neighborhood - stays right with us. He REALLY loves things that are white, and his favorites are napkins, paper towels, kleenex, and socks - which could cause severe gastrointestinal problems if he eats them, so caution is recommended. He'll try to search my husband's pockets for the latest kleenex but he'll basically try for anything within his reach that isn't anchored down or too big. Typical puppy behavior. His very favorite is the TV remote. He's munched up several of those
Jake's not allowed to have the run of the house as he's just one of those dogs that gets into whatever's around him - probably because he is young, intelligent and curious. He likes to "counter surf" to scope out what's there, too, so he's not allowed in the kitchen, bedrooms, or bathrooms without supervision. He's never been crated, but is leashed (double thickness leash) to our dining table leg and has a special carpet to lay on underneath the table, which is on a wood floor. He has his water, and a toy or two, and we give him a beef bone to chew on at night. This is so he is not roaming and getting into mischief. He IS potty trained for indoors and Jake always lets us know when he needs to go outside, but does well until morning. If emergency he will give us one bark in the middle of the night to go out, but I would say that probably 95% of the time we never hear a peep out of him all night, even when we have overnight company. We have a couple different ways we play ball inside with him: "soccer" & "hot dog" ball, and he knows exactly how to play each one! We also usually have some time of reviewing commands and of course our "sing time." He mainly likes to be outdoors." Lake Tahoe Wolf Rescue likes to adopt our rescues into homes without children simply because they do better in a calm household and one where doors won't accidently be left open for escaping. If you are interested in this pretty boy, Jake, please email PamelaJoWolflady@yahoo.com

Loup Loup Gender: Male
Age: 8 months
Loc: California
Status: Available

Loup is a very sweet 8-month-old neutered male that needs a very qualified home. He is quite shy of humans but with an experienced, calm handler he responds very well. He will walk off leash and stays with a pack most of the time (not the best recall), but will need lots of training and bonding with his new owner first. Loup would also be best in a home with very active owners that can take him hiking every day. A person who is around a lot (retired, works at home) would be the right match for this boy. His owners love him but they have young children who like to play with Loup, and when they get excited it triggers the Predator/Prey response in him. He is gentle with the little girls but gets a bit rough with their 7-year-old son (or is it the other way around? son likes to wrestle with him). We would like to rehome Loup into an environment with no children or small pets. Since he is still a pup Loup is very submissivie with other dogs and accepts the subordinate position in the pack. Loup will need an escape-proof containment - 6-7' fencing with dig guard would be best for him. He has not tried to escape his own fencing as he likes to stay with his male dog friend, but he does have separation anxiety if left alone and will chew things. Therefore, Loup will need another canine companion at his new home to make him feel more comfortable and secure. A dominant female would be great for this sweet boy. If you feel you have the right environment and lifestyle to adopt Loup, please contact Pamela Jo at PamelaJoWolflady@yahoo.com

Lily and Kali Lily and Kali Gender: Female
Age: 3-1/2 years
Loc: California
Status: Available, CRITICAL
Lily and Kali are two gorgeous young German Shepherd/Huskies that need new homes. We will separate them if needed as we feel they will blossom beautifully if each are placed in homes with a male canine companion. They are sisters, aged 3 1/2 and weiging 65 and 75 lbs. They are current on vaccinations and will be spayed by the end of January. They are both great with male dogs, ok with female dogs as long as the female is submissive. They really haven't been around children or cats so we will not adopt them into homes with cats, kids or little dogs. They are both a bit predatorial and love to run the property and hunt. They are currently enjoying invisible fencing on 2 acres, but owner has two Akita's and the four do not get along. Owner is afraid that the female Akita will kill these girls. Lily and Kali love to have their bellies rubbed, are very affectionate, and can be mischievous if not supervised ... they like chewing up toys and anything with stuffing (which can be dangerous). A home that can offer them good daily exercise, lots of companionship and some training. Transportation to their new homes will be available. Please contact Pamela Jo if you are interested in adopting either Lily or Kali or both! They need homes fast as they may be in danger of fighting with the Akita. Kanoa Kanoa Gender: Male
Age: Adult
Loc: Utah
Status: Available, CRITICAL

Kanoa is a very beautiful neutered Alaskan Malamute that needs a home immediately! Kanoa is with owner but only has 1 week to find a home or he may go to the shelter. His weight is approx 90 lbs and has had all puppy shots and 3-yr rabies. Generally good with other dogs. If they are territorial sometimes he can be dominant with them, but ABSOLUTELY LOVES playful and friendly dogs large or small.
Kanoa has never been around cats so we will not adopt to a home with cats. Kanoa needs a little more leash training as he's a tugger. He does love to go on hikes off leash and does pretty well.
He's kennel trained, house-trained, well behaved in the house. He loves to take showers and drink from the sink when invited and has quite a personality. However, occasionally he's been known to chew up one of your favorite articles due to separation anxiety ... that's when the kennel comes in handy, but his anxiety is because he is not getting enough exercise. Kanoa really needs daily exercise and tht means at least an hour run in the woods or hiking with him. He doesn't dig, climb, jump fences. He's also calm and content with being out in the backyard rain or snow as long as he gets his hikes and a good exercise every day. He knows the basics - sit, stay, shake, etc. He's a bit resource protective with his food and doesn't like his food messed with if he's already eating. If he's not eating, it's not a problem. Some training to fix this is recommended. Submissive to women and kids and puppies. He displays a little dominance with men some times until they show him that they are calm and confident. Right now Kanoa doesn't like to listen to anyone but his female owner so he will need some training and bonding with his new owner... perhaps a woman experienced with this breed would be great for Kanoa. He jumps up on people until he really gets to know them, mostly out of excitement, so a strong handler that can teach Kanoa some manners woud be best. He is super playful and LOVES to cuddle. He doesn't like his collar being tugged on. Kanoa is an amazing road-trip dog. He's well behaved on long-hauls and rides well in the car. He can sense if someone doesn't like him. Only one other person has gotten really close to him ... a 17-yr old boy, playing with him and giving him real love and attention. Putting in the effort made a WORLD of difference. Kanoa treated that boy like a king. He's wonderful at being a protector when needed. Once you get to know Kanoa he has the biggest heart. You just need to take the time to know him, and you will surely fall in love with him. Owner just does not have the time for Kanoa and does not have the experience to train him properly. If you can give this beautiful boy a loving home with consistent training and lots of attention, and if you are a good handler of large dogs or experienced with Malamutes, this may be the boy for you. Kanoa has lots of potential, is smart and willing to learn! Please contact Pamela Jo at PamelaJoWolflady@yahoo.com Time is of the essence for Kanoa! Help Kanoa now!
